Andrea Carla Michaels
San Francisco
@Tim thank you for noticing!!! ;)
@Andrzej Please find your whimsy… He was just adding his own AC. Actually Charming of him!
Loved this! Chip chip chip! Years ago someone did a chemical breakdown between coke and Pepsi and the ONLY diff was coke has an orange extract and Pepsi has a lemon one. They did further studies that younger folks prefer the lemon (thus the add to appeal to a Pepsi generation, etc) I’m old and clearly can taste a diff. That said, I recently had to give up Coke Zero (I thought I was ok, no sugar, no caffeine, no anything) But according to my doctor the synthetic stuff they have in there is so much worse than all those things “regular” has. She was right, gave it up and all my problems went away (except for my landlord situation!) On another note, I once made a puzzle that had PEPSICOLA and its anagram EPISCOPAL which is my favorite thing to share with clergyfolk!!! Cheers to Kate Chin Park to sticking to her guns (or whatever the latest woke phrase would have it!)
@Jayant. Haha, yes it was intended as a Tuesday. Poor Jeff… they see my name and it’s printed on a Monday… regardless! Friend suggested I change my name to Andrea Carla Mondays
@Barry Ancona. who you calling Olds?!
Hello KITTY!!!!!! Didn’t notice the Shrödinger shout out till Grant pointed it out in the comments!!!! WOW, this puzzle just keeps on giving!!! If you solve on paper (as I do) you could solve quickly and wouldn’t even necessarily know you missed the brilliant theme unless you intentionally go back and search for it. It’s the stab I get in the heart when someone does one of my Monday puzzles super fast and then says “oh, was there a theme?”(?!?)! (Not comparing my constructions with this brilliant one! Just giving a constructor/solver’s point of view!)
@john ezra John, thanks for going back to “smell the roses”! ALL my puzzles have a Beatles sub theme! A yellow sub theme? I suspect you’d enjoy the monthly bonus puzzle I constructed with Doug Peterson. It’s ALL about the boys!
When I first moved to San Francisco I met a fellow Minnesotan who thought for sure I was a New Yorker and I insisted I grew up in Minneapolis (despite NY Jewish parentage). She turned and said, “Duck… Duck…” and I said “grey duck?” I didn’t even know it wasn’t a thing elsewhere!!!! (It was like those WW2 tests for German spies…) Years later it was on “who wants to be a millionaire” as the first, supposedly easiest bottom-rung question: “in the children’s game, what word follows “duck…Duck…”? And “Duck “ was one of the 4 choices (their answer: goose) but that would've been unfair if it were a Minnesotan contestant bec “duck” would’ve been technically a correct answer! Last night I got a text from a childhood friend who wrote, “I knew immediately you could not have written this Monday puzzle!” (I loved it tho! Brava, Ms Z!)
@Steve L I couldn’t agree with you more! ;)
@Steve L Hey! Thanks for the kind words!
@Matthew. I’ll tell Jeff!
@Grant wow! Didn’t get the extra dollop of the KITTY shout out till your comment!!!! You just made reading thru 300 comments worth it! Thank you
@Lizzie Boredom How exciting! I’m happy to mentor you! Just email at my full name at gmail and we’ll take it from there, as long as you’re no actual relation to Lizzie Boredom
@Linda Jo. My fave Audience Comment! Thank you, Awfully Cute! Maybe we’ll have to do an LJ puzzle! LORD JIM, LITTLE JOHN, ummmmm
@T Jones. Oopth!
@Times Rita. Omg that is a great idea!!!!
@artlife. Haha… I’m in San Francisco and those things are creepy!!!
@dutchiris. Just to be a little nitpicky myself, Matt groening pronounces his name to rhyme with Raining. D’oh!
@Kelly H. I had crazy roommate bunkbed story too! There was overcrowding in my freshman dorm so they put in a bunk bed even tho only one desk, one lamp, one chair, etc. My roommate never used to even pause for a breath when talking, like she had been told to shut up her whole life. She was exceedingly bright and actually quite nice, but if I would get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, I'd come back and she'd have compulsively made my bed!!! Freaked me out and I requested (and received) a transfer after less than a week. Wow, I hadn't really thought about this in almost 50 years!
@dk I went to “our” place, Barbette!!!
@Tim and Christina ! Who gets full credit for a smoooooth grid!
@RF. Someone already did a DC COMICS it was super fun DANA CARVEY …I can’t remember who all else, but it was clever! And KEVIN and I did an AC/DC two years ago… those letters appeared (together, in order) in each theme phrase https://www.xwordinfo.com/Crossword?date=1/9/2023
@Sonja and some silly string, pls. Hand up for Lego too
@E. It was one too many for me too! Jeff actually redid that corner getting of both JABBA AND the reviled FLEEK whose moment has come and gone, I guess! But the gods that be said we were too late! I knew we'd get a lot of flak/Fleek about it! (Sigh.)
@SP yes exactly that! I had filled seemed clunky and inelegant trying to make so many theme entries fit neatly (not my forte… I’m an idea sorta gal) Luckily Christina to the rescue! I mentioned it to encourage others that even after many years and many puzzles I still get rejected so I want to encourage folks not to despair… and also maybe to collaborate to the yang of your yin!
