In the words of the constructor, “I’m quite surprised this puzzle was accepted.”
Any complaints I had about this puzzle were on me and entirely of the annoyed-until-solved variety. This puzzle is ingenious. Kudos to the constructor!
Loved it! Wednesdays are always the wonkiest in terms of how they trend difficulty-wise, so sure this was easier with the shorter fill, but the construction was very clever and satisfying.
I enjoyed it though certainly on the easier side. Sure it set my new record for a Thursday solve (8:02–solid pour moi), but some puzzle had to be the easiest. Theme was fun, cluing more a Tuesday level but that’s more on the editors than the constructor if they want to keep consistency in their publication. I liked it well enough.
Quality puzzle, just one minor issue for me. Noticeably and Noticeable both work for that rebus answer and if you don't know the pop culture reference to Dre, you'll be stuck on Dry for a while with a seemingly valid entry. Yes, yes, pop culture references are part of the fun and the turmoil, but seemed a better "Dre" clue could have been issued that an obscure reference when there are many more on offer. Not the best cluing imho.
Really well-constructed, just how a Saturday ought to be. Best almost half hour of my day!
@Anonymous Shoot, you're right. The Saturday was ALSO my best time for that day. And here I thought I was improving. Suppose both could be true but likely these need to toughen up some.
@SP I agree with you on adjective/adverb and that's how I uncovered the answer. Still don't love the cluing but we all have those moments. I've certainly been more aggrieved by an editorial decision than this, just stuck out as less than stellar cluing, where loads of "ice" words were available, in an otherwise solid puzzle.
