@Joe The vowels thing refers to the vowels in the phrase "trade discount". This is known as a supervocalic. Thanks google.
@TJ How do you pronounce these words? In Nebraska, both words rhyme with "ants".
I'm stuck at the cross of 52D, 76A Also what do AEIOU (vowels?) have to do with a trade discount? And I've pitched a tent but never a CAMP. Fun theme! Really enjoyed the puzzle.

Fun puzzle, very clever theme. I do think the clue author is being a little loose with the term "paradox", however, which is kind of ironic if you ask me.
@RL Why even bother with a grid? I just write my answers on a blank sheet of paper, one per line.
@Xperson Usually that means you used the "pencil" entry, which you can toggle using the pencil icon. It's a feature that allows you to use gray when you are unsure of an answer. I use it all the time!!

@Matt i dont think they are intended to be funny. I think the title was chosen because "commutation" is a word. I may be selling the puzzle makers short.
The fill was fine, Kareem! As soon as I solved the theme in the NW corner, the puzzle fell immediately. Fun puzzle!
@Grant Specifically it means the golfer went from off the green to in the cup in two shots... in other words, up [to the green] and down [in the cup] with just one putt. A typical par allows for two putts, but as you said an errant tee shot (on a par 3) or second shot (on a par 4) presents an opportunity for up and down.

@Barry Ancona That's what I said, yes. Is that a known phrase? DOT COM BUST works, but the rest are mysteries, and google doesn't seem to have answers either.

@ksp210 IPOS and IRAS are always clued poorly in my opinion..... they just put any finance term in the clue and call it good enough.
