@Joe The vowels thing refers to the vowels in the phrase "trade discount". This is known as a supervocalic. Thanks google.
I'm stuck at the cross of 52D, 76A Also what do AEIOU (vowels?) have to do with a trade discount? And I've pitched a tent but never a CAMP. Fun theme! Really enjoyed the puzzle.
@Billy It is a description of what happened, not an instruction of what to do.
Fun puzzle. Luckily my dad is in town to help with the Soviet-era trivia.
52D Clue, shouldn't Tech be capitalized?
@Steve It depends on which words cross the second and third letters.
@Laura Stratton Keep at it! Saturdays are not easy.
@Ethan or you're getting smarter!
Fun puzzle, very clever theme. I do think the clue author is being a little loose with the term "paradox", however, which is kind of ironic if you ask me.
@Matt i dont think they are intended to be funny. I think the title was chosen because "commutation" is a word. I may be selling the puzzle makers short.
The fill was fine, Kareem! As soon as I solved the theme in the NW corner, the puzzle fell immediately. Fun puzzle!
@Tali This is new to me. Thanks for the response.
Thanks to Book of Mormon for helping me with MOTHRA (cf. Two by Two)
@Moni I thought that was a great misdirect for "ear"
@Dan Collins Yes I believe it was the week of new years.
@Michelle B Look up CAREER in the dictionary.
@Winter cook: Look up CAREER in the dictionary.
@Marshall Walthew Your comment helped me solve the puzzle, thanks. I had BYGUd and dANGLES (I apparently am not familiar with the chiliagon)
Perhaps I'm overthinking the revealer... is DOT COM PARABLE supposed to be the phrase? Or is it just DOT COM?
@Barry Ancona That's what I said, yes. Is that a known phrase? DOT COM BUST works, but the rest are mysteries, and google doesn't seem to have answers either.
