@Mu Constructor here, and not a newbie. I’m curious about your comments— what makes this poorly constructed, and what do you consider arcana? And your third remark, do you mean to say that people with English as a second or third language are not getting a fair chance as solvers? How so?

@Rich FWIW, my original clue for this one was “parenthetical title for Hall and Oates hit ‘I Can’t Go For That’”, and I had zero idea it would open any sort of can of worms. I’m assuming the editors changed the clue to make one fewer pop culture reference in the puzzle.
