You have radar “hits” (or “blips”, or “beeps”, I suppose) and sonar “pings”. It’s from/due to the frequencies of the EM waves used when the systems first were used.

Not overly difficult but quite fun. I was pleasanly surprised when finishing 4D (by crosses) to see the Congratulations! pop up, I thought there must be more, it hasn't been but a few minutes. Probably a better Tuesday puzzle as the hint wasn't much of a hint and the italicized clues weren't that difficult after only a few crosses.

Crashing on iPhone and iPad, both updated to most recent iOS and NYT Games app. On both devices app constantly crashes at random. This was happening even before updating app/iOS and has continued after the updates. Crashes started when crossword was updated with new internal-to-app Wordplay "feature". Having Wordplay open in-app is ridiculous to start with, but the bug it has introduced has made my PAID subscription nearly unusable.
