I liked the "Poison" clue's answer the best. This puzzle was one I had to go away from for a while to re-think it. Upper left corner was the tough one today for me.

My college roommate went right out and bought this album when it came out, and we wore the grooves off. I have it on CD and listen to it still. A work of genius and wonder (pun intended). Nice to see the tribute in the puzzle, and not only because it made it easier for me!

I'm usually a complainer, but this is Thursday and the indicated solutions, while they don't answer the clues "as is," are at least real words, and for me, that's enough. I mainly complain when the scrambling tricks result in nonsense, and these do not. As a pretty good solver, I had fun and I say, "well done"--looking forward to more puzzles from Mr. Guzman

WHAT? Other than cryptic or anagram clues, I don't recall another NYT puzzle that has contained answer words in a clue. It took me longer than it might have to complete due to my disbelief.

If I had been raptured the other day I would not have had to meet the devil in this puzzle. I carefully worked out all the down words and put in the rebuses, and it wouldn't solve. So I decided to try the other way and that worked. Set me back from doing my chores this morning too.

A great puzzle! is it just me or are Tuesday getting harder?

Liked it but for someone like me with poor closeup vision I had a hard time seeing thru the "vine" -- even with my glasses on.

I love a theme-less puzzle. Just a fun solve, no tricks!

I found this puzzle really difficult today, especially the northwest corner. That's okay, I like a challenge, and I finished it after taking a break, but man oh man, is it ever bringing down my Friday average!!!

Well, I got SNORRI (I can't account for what sticks in my brain) but did not understand the theme answers until I came here.

Easy puzzle; but had to come to the article to see the theme! Maybe it's just too early in the morning for me.

I haven't had to look up a puzzle answer in a long, long time. I fiddled around and got a few of the across answers via a perverse sort of word association. But when the down didn't really help all that much, I came to this article to find which end was up. Once I read the first couple of paragraphs I went back and put myself out of my misery by finishing it. This is an enjoyable form for some; and I'm annoyed with myself I didn't get the twist without the hints. I'm excusing my lack of insight because I was traveling and hadn't had any coffee yet.

but but but the rotated answers might be usable answers for some crossword, but they aren't usable for these clues, so, sorry, I don't get this. I mean I got the animation, etc., but I don't get how those are "valid crossword answers"

Are Jesse Cohn and Marc Cohn related?

I'm at that stage of the puzzle where I am certain I have all the answers correct, but apparently I don't. I've got all the theme answers correct, so it must be one letter somewhere I'm missing something. Am I going to give up my streak and have the software check?? Grrr. I think I'll look again later :-(
