I'm usually a complainer, but this is Thursday and the indicated solutions, while they don't answer the clues "as is," are at least real words, and for me, that's enough. I mainly complain when the scrambling tricks result in nonsense, and these do not. As a pretty good solver, I had fun and I say, "well done"--looking forward to more puzzles from Mr. Guzman
Congrats to the constructor. That's what this is all about!
Now that's a puzzle! Double meaning indeed.
If I had been raptured the other day I would not have had to meet the devil in this puzzle. I carefully worked out all the down words and put in the rebuses, and it wouldn't solve. So I decided to try the other way and that worked. Set me back from doing my chores this morning too.
@Mean Old Lady "ribbing" is a manner of joking, so you would be "ribbing" someone at a comedy ROAST. And a delicious and expensive cut of beef is a standing rib ROAST, which is roasted in the oven.
A great puzzle! is it just me or are Tuesday getting harder?
Liked it but for someone like me with poor closeup vision I had a hard time seeing thru the "vine" -- even with my glasses on.
I love a theme-less puzzle. Just a fun solve, no tricks!
Well, I got SNORRI (I can't account for what sticks in my brain) but did not understand the theme answers until I came here.
Easy puzzle; but had to come to the article to see the theme! Maybe it's just too early in the morning for me.
@Newbie I wasn't crazy about TATTED UP either, but I'm old, and a post-puzzle check tells me that seems to be common parlance among the young folk. I object to BLEH for Ugh. BLECH or even BLECCH I'd have accepted. But otherwise I found this to be a fun puzzle.
but but but the rotated answers might be usable answers for some crossword, but they aren't usable for these clues, so, sorry, I don't get this. I mean I got the animation, etc., but I don't get how those are "valid crossword answers"
Are Jesse Cohn and Marc Cohn related?
@Larry Berger I concur--I rebus'ed them too, and when I didn't get the little solve ditty, I had to go back thru and figure out what was wanted. And while the words across do make an acceptable entry it doesn't solve the clue as stated, which something I really dislike in a puzzle.
