What a relentlessly horrible puzzle. The theme clues required layers of very specific lateral interpretation, and even with the theme explained, they are tenuous at best. Coupled with late-week-level crosses, if you’re not on the very specific wavelength that gets the theme, it renders the puzzle impenetrable. Poor show. I usually don’t comment if I don’t enjoy a puzzle, assuming it to be against my own preferences. But I think this was just a bad puzzle.
