@Meryl S. interesting, as I’m an early 30s woman and I definitely read this clue as referring to a man! I’d usually be with you, but not on this.
I liked this puzzle. Although I enjoy a really clever theme, I often find even a tricky theme makes solving easier and quicker and then I'm sad it's over so fast. Even themeless, this was a fairly smooth solve for me that wound up being 15 minutes quicker than my Sunday average. I had to leave 55A (Girder whose name assumes a serif font) and 71D (Shell competitor) to the end and play around until I found letters that looked right to me. Despite the high number of proper names, I am proud to say I either knew them or work them out on my own.
@Sam Lyons I seem to be in the minority, but I would say 'An oldie but a goodie', so the 'a' seemed correct to me. This was my favourite clue/answer in this puzzle. Too good.
Super easy Friday for me - personal best by an absolute mile. I'm so sad it's over. I always want a puzzle to last but now I have to wait for tomorrow!
Struggle street for me today - far too many proper nouns I just wasn't familiar with. Disappointed to see the XW Stats site says it was an easy puzzle with majority solving faster than usual. It was about double my average Saturday time! 'Cab driver?' / WINE SELLER was my favourite clue/answer combo today.
@Chris I didn’t find the reference to Nadia Comaneci to be obscure, and I’m in my early to mid-30s. We all have our interests 🤷🏼♀️
Enjoyable enough, but my fastest Sunday ever and I like when it takes me a while on Sundays... a slow coffee over a crossword. Not today!
@Andrew surely this isn't true on days where the rebus includes a different letter or different letters for the across vs down? Genuinely don't know, so I'm curious!
