Utterly impressive how one can construct a crossword under this constraint, while making it accessible enough for a Tuesday and not having overly difficult fill.
Nice Monday puzzle, had no problems with it. EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY!
Oh my word, I never thought I'd see the day a fellow Singaporean construct the daily NYT crossword, let alone one still in secondary school. Congrats Bryan!
Thanks to this Saturday puzzle, I now have a new longest 6-day streak. ScatterPLOT and DepthCHARTS are a nice pair of longest answers in this puzzle. Giant Steps and Blue Cheese... something funky, perhaps. Hope everyone had an enjoyable solve.
My first Friday with no autocheck, in a nice time of 22:22! Though this probably says more about this puzzle’s accessibility than my skill. Also appreciate the punny clues strewn across the grid. Now SCALLIONS and ONIONRING have got me thinking about lunch. :)
Glad I could get the puzzle over quickly so I could rush to read the column today. I’m very glad to have picked up solving crosswords again and this column has helped me immensely. Many thanks to Deb and all other writers here, and well wishes :)
I’ve only started doing crosswords again this year after quitting when covid hit… and yet it feels like I’ve been reading Wordplay for the longest time. Many well wishes, Deb :)
I was able to break into this puzzle rather quickly, the top half fell into place quite easily then I took my time with the bottom half. Great fun this Saturday puzzle :)
Even after getting the theme early on, it took me way too long to realise that the grid design itself resembled a PHI. Very cool :)
Definitely one of my favourite grid designs in some time (bar the excellent Saturday by Blake Slonecker in June this year). The edges of the puzzle are wrapped so nicely by combinations of tripled stacked 10- and 4-letter entries, with a small staircase in the middle. Just opening the crossword to see a satisfying design already makes me happy. :)
Every week, I fear what lies in Thursday’s crossword… I guess there’s not much to fear this week, I’ll enjoy my extra free time after solving this one :)
Pretty good puzzle. 41A can be the cherry on top :)
Quite a speedy solve for a Thursday today, and I only got the theme when the grid was almost filled. Fun :)
NW and SE filled within 10 minutes, 30 minutes to complete the whole puzzle. Thought I was gonna hit a new Friday PB. Still fun to do :)
Vertex and Digits were my favourite NYT games back then :(
Such a whimsical puzzle that had me smiling all the way. I thought I was doomed when I barely got anything in the first pass then YOYOSTRING popped up and the awesome Down spanner appeared shortly after. Fun :)
Simple Thursday, had fun solving. True that.
Lovely puzzle and beautiful stacks in the top and bottom. The top third was exceptionally challenging to me, but otherwise a good solve.
Quite a bit of common crossword answers here and there. ASA, ALII, ORA, ALOHA, IRULE, EASEd, IDLEd, OLEs, REO, LEI, IONs… I suppose they’re common for a reason, understandable for a Tuesday.
Filling in CRISSCROSS APPLESAUCE first was nice, and everything else falling into place was nicer, though I struggled with what a HASP is. Good puzzle :)
Lots of clever clues in this one, which had me stuck on a near empty grid for a while before everything fell into place swiftly. Fun :)
Great theme and execution. So many theme entries while maintaining pretty smooth fill. I loooooove it :)
Hoping for a challenging Friday and Saturday ahead
I guess this puzzle appealed to the young’uns like me, I didn’t have any problems with that particular 51D/66A crossing. Hope everyone had a smooth solve otherwise.
Pleasing to the eye, great puzzle.
Mighty satisfying puzzle. Was able to break in easily and had a fun time.
Definitely a very creative Thursday gimmick and a pleasure to solve.
Much more refreshing than yesterday’s puzzle, was able to get the themed answers from the crossings rather than the clues except the top one. I also did enjoy Adrianne’s jewellery box puzzle some months ago. Fun :)
