After solving over a thousand, this was the first non rebus puzzle I’ve enjoyed so little that I just hit the reveal button halfway through… blech, this was zero fun.
If you need six paragraphs to explain the gimmick it’s probably not any good
Thank you for an excellent crossword puzzle that didn’t require gimmicks or paragraphs of explanation, and instead relied on simply being appropriately challenging. Thursday through Sunday should always be like this.
It would be so great if these lame gimmick based crosswords could be a different category in the app, for those who don’t hate them, and we could just get a normal crossword puzzle every day instead.
I wish you’d just make good crosswords instead of whatever this convoluted nonsense is.
@Nancy J. I have repeatedly suggested that they include an asterisk on the title or something so that the gimmick haters can skip these
I hate gimmick puzzles so much. I wish there was a standard crossword daily and these could be in a separate section for the people who enjoy them. At least label them so they could be more easily skipped.
@Anonymous I’ve contacted NYT asking them to please flag non standard puzzles so I can skip them. They’re not gonna do it. I hate these gimmicks but they’re popular. I just want to do a crossword with my coffee in the morning. I don’t mind the difficulty of the standard weekend puzzles but I don’t want a crossword with multiple layers of non-crossword complexity. And you’re right, the puzzle info spoils the puzzle. We’re just going to cancel our subscription I think.
