@Connor It wasn’t easy IN the US either 😂
I saw a couple of groans in the comments for certain clues, but no one groaned at what my husband groaned at: 404 messages being “errors”. He said technically 500s are errors and 400s are status messages. 😝
@wickershee If you have to explain a joke, it isn’t funny. The same feels true of wordplay.
1A should have been paparazzi, it’s infinitely more clever than spaceship.
@Lea It was not just you. The struggle was real over here and I had almost nothing spring to mind for more than 80% of the across clues in my first pass. It was a grind.
Why is it that ever time I can basically not solve a puzzle and despise every painful minute of staring at it that I come to this blog only to find that everyone else loves it? And days I breeze through people complain about obscure cluing. It makes no sense at all to me. Did not enjoy today at all. It was an absolute slog to drag any answer out and even when I did I had no confidence that I wouldn’t have to change it at some point- and often did. Least fun all week so far.
One of the most frustrating puzzles I’ve done in a while almost entirely because of the pop culture references, but un helped by obscure answers too. Did anyone come to realize why the last letter of several answers were left off? I missed the point…
@Camille Guigliano It was a pun, Carolina reapers isn’t a name it’s a type of hot chili pepper
Really fun one today, being a true millennial I didn’t even blink at the first calculator clue and blew through all of the answers except Emily Brontë, which was incredibly obscure and difficult, but excellent trivia. We had couple of cheats on names, Iga, spelling Liane correctly although I knew the name, McRae. Hardest clue for us was either the Brontë clue or mukbangs. But the rest went by really fast. We have begun a running of joke of the repeat offenders in the clues… tell my the answer and tell me why it isn’t: Oboe, IRAS, Alda, Iyo, top banana, eras, ipas… etc. Some of the full ins are getting ridiculously overused. They either need better cluing or more imagination because they just keep reappearing when new words would be much more welcome. But, I’m not a constructor… I’d probably be less harsh in my feelings if I had to come up with one.
My prickles… Tints are the opposites of shades. Eenie meenie minie Moe is not a counting game. Etch is not a deep cut… at all, it’s by definition surface level. And I have to admit it bothered me the ten ants were “nt”s and not “ants” *groan*
@Lpr it did lol. I type the word mandala much more than the name Mandela in my dumb phone.
