the 'Note' should have said 'each dial will rotate...' the clearest interpretation is that the solver needs to 'rotate' the dial, not that the dials will rotate automatically - increases solve time considerably and as with a few others over the years, if a gimmick takes that much explication and still isn't clear, it's probably a bad idea
if the theme/trick takes that much explanation...it's probably not a great idea... weird puzzle with a quick solve for a Thursday without any thought given to the gimmick
loved seeing FUBAR... but it's rarely heard outside the military I was literally FUBAR once after an accident where my face was so damaged that my mother didn't recognize me a little bit of titanium, several hundred stitches, and multiple reconstructive surgeries later, i was no longer FUBAR
think grid may set a record for pop-culture names (that i have never heard of) and shows (that i have never seen) in a week-day puzzle
solved the grid except for the NW corner without even trying to get the theme clues... and after reading the column it still fell....well...flat clue and answer for 11 D is really big reach.. especially for a Tuesday
cute, but an annoying slog of a solve don't mind the occasional rebus, but all of these were way too much to be fun
@Dillon in the UK, the Royal Navy has 'cadets' and a Cadet Corps i was taken aback at that one too... but it's legit
do you have to include a slash in the rebus squares? puzzle filled... got the 'at least one square 's amiss' message looked at the answer key and compared letter for letter.... inserted both the letters for all the rebus squares... went over the grid letter by letter again.. still no yellow star?
looked at multiple sites... the M. Binchy novel is noted as being published in 1998 everywhere i looked it was one of Oprah's club selections in 1999... seems an odd fact to rely on?
@Gregory Melahn got the music and my clock stopped at 14:12 and that is what shows in my stats grid. but if i look back at the puzzle the clock shows 30:43... maybe a clock/timer gremlin today?
can someone explain 2A for me? 'you do you' - heard that a lot never encountered this answer
