I have never played nor had interest in playing a Mario-based game, so none of this meant anything to me. Put another way, I simply didn't get it. What a waste of 48 minutes but I now have another entry for my list of stupidest Sunday Xword subjects (Pachinko machine, Evel Knievel, etc.). However, since the NYT Crossword editors now consider esoteric knowledge regarding games to be acceptable Sunday crossword subjects, I'm sure they'll be salivating when they hear that I'll soon be submitting a puzzle based upon my childhood obsession game, STRAT-O-MATIC baseball. Search it up. :-)
