I can't put my finger on it, but I didn't really like this one. Some odd clues or too many names I guess. Idk just didn't jive with me.
The story of solving this puzzle? CHRONICLEPAIN Issues had trying to sort out this puzzles clues? LOGICALJAM Where a solver of this puzzle might be after it's completion? CYNICALCITY The theme was fine, but I did not enjoy the rest of the puzzle. Hard to put my finger on what exactly. The clues just felt bad.
@SP Right there with yah bud. Liked the theme, disliked the puzzle Choice between a painfully slow solve or just looking up the answers? TRICKLEORCHEAT Double pun there for yah.
@Chris you are not alone, it was very hard for a Wednesdays, the theme was awkward, many clues didn't make sense to me There will be some people here soon to tell us our opinions are wrong
@Tk agreed. Really did not feel like a Monday Puzzle at all.
This puzzle was a bad experience on mobile in the app. How would one know that there were 8 secret clues? They were hidden in the menu to open the blog article. I don't open the article about the crossword, which contains spoilers, until I am stuck or done. That was very frustrating to see when I completed the puzzle. On that note, the title of the crossword/blog article, which is occasionally a hint to the puzzle, should be visible in the mobile app without opening the blog article as well. Other than that, it was a decent puzzle.
Anyhow? Anyway? Anyhow? Nope. Anyhoo.
I did not enjoy this puzzle at all. Just never been so put off by a puzzle before. I do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and muddle my way through Sundays. Wednesdays I usually need a little help to finish. I had 80% of this puzzle blank after reviewing all the clues. No circles or marks to indicate the rebus is needed is bad. 10A/23D was an especially bad crossing for a rebus and theme. Never heard of either of those things. The downs to help get to CentralAC were pretty brutal as well. I had to read the article to get this and even understand there is a rebus in the puzzle. I can go on, but will leave it there. To all those commentors that disagree, congrats, but save it. This is my opinion that I am sharing with the NYT. No snark needed.
Was not a fan of this one. Sorry.
@Anne i would say more of a Wednesday. That was the hardest Monday in a LONG time.
I love that this puzzle gave some boomers a hard time. Now you know how us millennials feel almost every puzzle. LOL. I need more puzzles like this. I have thought about taking up the art of crossword puzzle making to just make the ultimate boomer stumper.
@Francis anytime I have ever engaged with such a line of questioning I have just been insulted, so I don't engage anymore. Respectfully, you haven't been present for all the times I have commented and seen the responses I have received so frankly, if my comment doesn't apply to you, shh.
@KK ditto, never heard of her or any of these books
I get that sweetie is short for honey and thus hon but to me it will always be hun. That took way to long for me to find and fix.
@Doofus McGee really? Damn NYT needs to get this stuff into the app. I just learned there is a monthly crossword as well, which isn't in the app.
@abelsey most rebus puzzles have a tell that something else is going on that isn't the norm. Anyway, thanks for your unsolicited double snark. @Cherry maybe you should talk to NYT then. From my breif research on her it seems she hated being called MAMA CASS. @Cool Papa Bell thanks, more snark on my subjective opinion on this puzzle and feedback. Always has to be people like you three when feedback is shared that the puzzle was not enjoyed. Imagine if I jumped into every positive comment to tell them they were wrong.
@Strudel Dad I agree with @Andrzej, my complaints aren't so much the rebus as the puzzle and its heavy reliance on proper nouns. A couple circles where the rebus entries were meant to go would have gone a long long way as well. Usually there is some sort of hint when things are not normal.
@Ben if that info is so important, the app should display it more prominently. I would suggest that the title page display when opening the crossword for the first time on a page the player dismisses to reveal the grid.
@Phil one of those should be anywho, can't delete or edit comment :(
@Hugh I'm on the cusp of millennial and Gen x and never heard of her, but I am also not an American
@Bill in Yokohama I also played into the bozo red herring, trying to figure out what a azode really racked my brain as I was sure bozo was right
@Beth all that in implied... When someone expresses their feelings it is normally their opinion.
@Andrzej 100% agree. Not circling the squares where the rebus entries went or providing any indication of their existence was also bad. I can safely say this was my least favourite NYT puzzle, by a lot.
18D was dirty, especially if you don't speak Spanish to get 20A. I had INK in there to the end.
@Francis I am not alone then! Had the same thoughts.
@Stephen and here I was thinking that technically shouldn't it be beamer?
@Prof. Toru Tanaka Like, do you pronounce it like hon in Honor? It me it is pronounced more like Hun in hungry, thus why I want to spell it Hun.
@dutchiris they are also a business out to make money. If they don't want mine, that is fine, as you said, we can all make choices.
@Brian only reason I cheated to the end was to keeo my streak. No streak and I probably wouldn't have been as peeved.
@No One despite what the others say, I think you are correct. While the tech did exist to broadcast stereo in AM, the receivers for it were few and far between, which is why today there are essentially no stereo AM broadcasts. Sure you can do it, but it isn't really done. It would be like if the clue was about power distribution and the answer was DCElectricity. Sure you can do it, but nobody does because it isn't practical.
@max 100%, thanks for bringing that up. Very sketchy. That said, it would be nice if NYT enabled more stats for the crossword like they do with the AI bot for wordle and such.
