@Jon I'd never heard of Etta Jones but played her version of at last on Youtube. An hour later I'm still listening to Etta James' At Last album. I like both the Jones and the James version. The rabbit holes are why I like the NYT crossword.
It saddens me when people think Nessie is a myth. She and her sister Morag in Loch Morar are just shy.
On a Thursday I go into the article and search for the word rebus, if there is one I don't bother with the crossword for that day. I just don't like them, Thursday for me is difficult enough without more trickery. Hat's off to those who like that extra challenge.
Polled ahead not crossing with Ono was my downfall.
@Jive Miguel now, a Hamilton pro would be an Accie or a Partick pro would be a Jag. Of course I wouldn't expect anyone outside Scotland to get them. I'm learning the US sports team very slowly, that's why I do the NYT for the culture lessons.
@Cindy If you police language use too closely it can become ridiculous and far too restrictive. For example banana boat is used in a Scottish idiom common in the 60s which would in today's terms be considered racist. Should we not use a legitimate word because it has been used in that way?

Accidental as I'm sure it was any crossword that includes the great Jock Stein makes my day.
@SP Until I read this I couldn't find where I'd gone wrong I knew poptoplim had to be wrong but sometimes I get stuck on Americana. I thought Cuss was probably right for lip. I just had a bum rap I suppose.
