This is one solid puzzle. I enjoyed the whole thing, very smart effort, and I especially love the shout out to Venus Flytrap. He's somewhere in Virginia I think, retired and still fine.

Stupendous Saturday, what a treat. I tend to get annoyed by the PANYNJ having worked there for 10+ years but got that clue right away with glee. Thank you to Mr. Sheremata.

I did not read the column before posting a little reply to a fellow honest solver earlier. Then I noted via other comments that the crossword was partially created by some AI called "ingrid". Death of the crossword.
