Ah. Flow state for me. Perfect amount of frustration and aha moments. A+
Wowsers. What a great puzzle. I’m sure it’s not literally true, but it felt like every single clue had a double meaning… A really nice workout for the brain, and the answers seemed fresh as well. To me, this is what a Saturday puzzle is all about, really, really hard, but doable. The answers didn’t seem too specialized either, like about baseball or pop culture etc., where one group of solvers would be at a disadvantage. Thank you NYT.
Sorry not sorry to be a pedant. Pulp Fiction was widely celebrated and awarded when released, thought by some not only to be the best film that year, but a landmark in unorthodox storytelling. Farthest thing from a cult film you could imagine. Otherwise…I had to resolve the Akela/Haka thing by going through the alphabet letter by letter, and the wraparound trick was mildly amusing I guess. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week.
I was today years old when I learned that “the” is the French word for tea. Puzzle was ok I guess. It didn’t really sizzle for me. Not a big deal, I basically tread water usually until I hit the Thursday-Sunday corridor. I sometimes play Monday through Wednesday on list(?) mode (where you just see the clues in order, without seeing the grid at all) just for variety’s sake.
Agree with you about difficulty level. Still enjoyable but wish it had been more challenging. Yesterday’s got me, so I guess that was my Saturday so to speak.

Typically in the US a cult film has the life cycle of being an underperformer or even a flop at the box office, which then slowly grows a passionate following over the years, with some people viewing multiple times, obsessively quoting perhaps, often developing a fan community even. But it’s worth considering why some may consider Pulp Fiction a cult film. Perhaps that due to some of its more extreme goings on it will always feel a bit taboo, and have sort of a cult feel for people who discover it for themselves. I don’t know. I have a friend who is a native Polish speaker, I will ask him about the word in Polish and see what he says.
What a delightful Wednesday puzzle. Felt more like a Thursday/Friday in difficulty level. Actually it was much harder for me to complete than the actual Thursday this week. Some of the answers were completely new to me, and I found the construction very elegant.
