Why are so many people commenting they didn’t get the theme because they don’t ski?! I don’t ski either but since when do people only know about things they actively participate in?! Such a weird complaint.
@Matthew you know you’re allowed to know stuff that happened before you were born, right?
Two clues about scientists that I have posters of on my walls! Hurrah!
Me trying to smash ETHYLENE into the RIPENER spot. Too knowledgeable for a Monday?
Can we at least put in the clue that reiki is absolute bs? It’s not an energy healing practice, it’s imaginary hoodoo.
Sorry but this one was way too esoteric. Every other answer was the absolute last thing you would think of. Like liked? More over? No one talks like that and bible camp? That’s the last cult recruiting event I thought of.
Can someone explain STERN? A stern test? What?
I like hard puzzles when they’re clever or funny or interesting. This was none of those.
Am the only one who has never heard of “duded up”? I read a lot and am always confused when I find a phrase that is completely unknown to me. Usually I end up thinking “oh yeah I’ve seen/heard that before!”, but not this time. Who uses that phrase and in what time period?
Hated every second of it.
@Helen Wright A Christmas Story is an American film from the 80s but set in the 50s. It’s a fantasticly funny and heartwarming film. Highly recommend it.
That’s not a foot, a foot has 5 of them though.
@Rikki all the special clues are spelled wrong nd I don’t get it.
@M AWS (Amazon server) is down and is affecting A LOT of apps and sites. It’s a huge news story this morning but NYT is also down so….
@john ezra I’m sorta new to the forum, but not the puzzles. Can you explain the reference to emus in the comments? I don’t get it but I’ve seen it even in archived game posts.
@Megan effete is a common word for me, maybe because I’ve always been an Oscar Wilde fan, but what else was natick? Everything seemed pretty straightforward to me.
@Michael total opposite for me. SW was a breeze. Struggled with NW a bit.
@Cat Lady Margaret I immediately thought ATGC was going to play a role.
Almost 9 minutes faster than my Friday average. Meh. Prefer more of a challenge on Fri.
A little too easy for a Wednesday. I beat my average time by 4:30 and I was watching Unsolved Mysteries at the same time.
@Andrzej a “#2” pencil is just short hand for 2B which is the most common one for writing. We use number letter combos exactly the same as you do.
@Jennifer check out an app called “world map quiz”. It’s fantastic for learning countries, capitals, and maps.
@Laura Stratton the lines = HA. Took me a bit to figure out buts definitely fair.
I liked the theme but some of the other clues were 🙄. Looks like a backward 3? Really? Are you a child?
@Gayle Johnson it took me a while to get it, but you can actually put “the northeast”, “the southeast”, “the southwest”, or “the northwest” as the answer. Depending on which you choose it slightly changes some of the other answers, like “pat” to “pet” but all the answers work for the clues given. It was a little confusing but a very clever one!
@Heidi I had no idea either and ended up checking it with “Ask Magic” and disappointment.
Difficult is fine. I love difficult puzzles. Dude just makes the most boring, tedious puzzles that feel like a waste of time when finished. Get someone new.
@SBK also, fresh local cottage cheese is mikes away from the watery goop people ate in the 80s with half a grapefruit 😂
@Jan working my way through the archive (currently in December 1995!) and that happens A LOT.
@Grant loved the Mo clue! I felt like I had an edge for once instead of feeling lost by all the pop music references.
@Francis if everyone is saying the same thing…seems like valid feedback. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with giving feedback. Puzzle constructor is human, so are we. We can have feelings…like being cheated out of a nice tough Thursday to work out.
Lunch person, thank you. Can we stop assuming certain jobs are for certain genders or that only females have long hair? Not to mention, I’d rather die than be referred to as a “lady” and I’m afab.
Associating a haircut with any group is gross stereotyping, but especially with a sexual preference. Stupid and should never have gotten past an editor.
@Barry Ancona please identify why you feel the need for this person to identify which clues they didn’t like. *insert Liz Lemon eye roll*
@lucky13 I eat ice cream for breakfast at least once a week. Usually with berries and nuts. I’m super fit.
Fun but too easy for a Thursday.
Too easy for Thursday. Almost 8 minutes faster than my average.
@Mike totally different fruits. As in I had to get 7 stitches in my hand when I stabbed myself cutting a pomelo, but most people injure themselves with a serrated grapefruit spoon. Also, a grapefruit is actually a hybrid orange/pomelo.
@Hanson took me wayyyyy too long to understand my answer 😂
Not a fan of the use of phrases as answers in general, but this puzzle was taking liberties. It just screams “poor vocabulary” to me. Too many multi-word answers and pop culture references. Not hard, just not my cup of tea 😘
@Loopy a friend of mine from high school used to chef there. Excellent food!
I think my biggest problem with these types of puzzles is they really are tailored for online/mobile users. I really enjoy paper and pen puzzles and only if I’m really frustrated then I start fresh on my phone and go oh right I’m supposed to mash 4 letters into 1 tiny square in the paper version *eye roll*. I don’t mind these types I just wish it was separate from a more traditional one. Live tricky themes, rhebus can sod off.
@Francis it’s a slang mispronunciation of the word “beau”
@Anita I was trying to figure out how to put “Broadway star” in a 3 letter space….
@James P would have preferred a Michael Caine clue for Zulu but…
@Susan K this would have been a much better clue for me!
