It was Mr T’s birthday yesterday. He turned 72. Heard it in the radio and reminded of it today. He caused quite a ruckus in his upscale Chicago suburb decades ago cutting down trees.

A spot marker in Chicago is dibs. It’s that chair left in the street after someone has shoveled out their own car. It’s not their permanent winter parking spot.

Gyros are Greek. Shawarma is Arabic. Greeks eat a lot of pork and don’t do halal. So no, there would never be a gyro on a halal cart. As my Greek family puts it, everyone loves Greek food and changes their food to sound Greek. My area has a huge Palestinian population. They are all opening restaurants and calling them Mediterranean food. To the non-Greeks: “Ooh Mediterranean, Greece is in the Mediterranean. I love that food”. It’s not the same. Just like a gyro is not halal. It’s pronounced “yeer-row” for anyone in that debate.
