Am I the only one?? For the longest time I thought the answer for 24A [Grp. whose first letter is now outdated] was USA.

@Mark - Why wait until next month? You can just stop doing the puzzles if you're not enjoying them.

As read in the Detroit Free Press: Aretha Franklin was never part of the Motown Records roster, but she did belong to the Motown family, company founder Berry Gordy said. So... the clue for 26A works just fine for me.

@Francis - I can't speak for Nancy, but I'm still reading! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Fascinating stuff - thanks for taking the time to share it. And I thought the puzzle was fun and cleverly constructed.

@Francis - I would never fault anyone for unfamiliarity with a sports name, but I'm a little surprised you haven't heard of Ms. Lee since she's a Minnesotan and has received lots of local news attention. Woo-hoo!

@Beth - 12D is STEARNS, not ATRIA :).

I've only skimmed the comments so far, but am I the only one with a **huge** spoiler ad at the top of the puzzle page?? I solve on the NYT website on a laptop and there's a giant banner ad for the Paramount show "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" just above the grid. :( I thought the puzzle was great fun and an amazing construction! I do feel a little bad for anyone with no interest in Star Trek, though.

@Jerry Joe is referring to the Spelling Bee, another game that is offered by the NYT (along with things like Wordle and Sudoku). Not a "highly biased publication."

@Bill On my MacBook laptop and in the iPhone app all the letters are their normal black color. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@nash.mark Excellent description, except I think you meant "you don't have to *chew* it," right?

@Steve L I just tried it and it works the same on a Mac laptop. Such a small detail but very helpful. Thanks a bunch for sharing your discovery!!

@S Gold - I see no error. The Westminster dog show is held by the Westminster Kennel Club. The National Dog Show is held by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia. Both shows are licensed/sanctioned by the AKC.
