I am going to make this as clear as I can. I hate this. I am not going to finish it. I want a NYTimes CROSSWORD puzzle. If I wanted some other kind of puzzle, I would search one out. This is clever and all that, but it's not why I come here. Thank you.
I loved this one! Very clever. And, the first NY Times Sunday crossword I have ever successfully completed without a single piece of assistance. I felt like I was on the same wavelength as the creator. A red letter day for me! Thanks for the fun and challenge!
Oh for Pete's sake! First there was Thursday's bird flipping and now this! I'm paying for these you know. I'm sure someone in the comments can direct me to some other source of challenging crosswords which are in fact crosswords. Thank you. Oh, and I have some "cross words" that I'd like to use in this post, but I'm sure they wouldn't pass the censor, even if I put them in roundabouts...
@Barry Ancona Ah, thank you for the information, Barry. I have only recently subscribed here. I may have to look elsewhere.
Sigh! I hate rebuses and thought that they only appear on Thursdays. To find out that this is one was unpleasant.
I didn't like "Dissonant Chores" at all. I understand about "dissonant chords," but loading and unloading the dishwasher doesn't have even any "dissonant" tones about it....
Loved this one! Though I had to break my own rule and reveal 3 squares. That's my worst performance to date, but this was so much fun that I didn't mind.
This one was lots of fun!
When I filled in FALLCRANEHES for flat feet I quit. I speak 4 languages and I have no idea why that is the solution for that clue. This is not fun.
@Jane Wheelaghan Thank you! I always wondered why Brits said "get the sack!"
@Fellow solver - Same. Tnia and Ennead held me up for a long time!
@Anita I made a mental note too. I don't like puzzles by Annie Walker. À chacun son goût...
@Sean I had all those and I still didn't get it. And I didn't like it.
This one was just SO much better than yesterday. I got it all, no help, in my regular Friday time. Fun!
No, Sean, I don't see the pattern. I'm a word person. I read in and speak 4 languages. I suck at patterns. But, now that I know that lots of the NYT crosswords aren't really "straight" crosswords, I just look up the squares I can't get. It's much less satisfying than a "real" crossword, but it's still better than most of what's out there. Maybe you could publish 2 puzzles on "trick days?" One for us word people and another for those who like stuff like these - and rebuses - and suchlike.
I am still solving. What is the deal with Square 41? No letter is accepted there?!
@Steve L Really? I swear that I tried them all. But since I stopped after I found that it was a rebus (I don't like those,) I guess I'll never know. Thank you for your reply.
@Asher B.Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one who feels this way!
@lucky13 Thank you! I love acrostics!
@B I moved very rapidly from "I'm going to hate this," to "I really hate this!"
@BL I know no one who does not hate actual roundabouts. No one knows how to use them, and most of the hair-raising close calls I've had in autos have been in them. Whoever invented them should be forced to spend eternity navigating them with people unfamiliar with them -- truly a fate worse than death.
@Vince Yes! Thank you! Exactly!
I enjoyed this one and solved it in my usual Thursday time. But, even having read the Gameplay, I still don't get why "toys for tots" solves to "typo." I know I'm missing the wordplay there....
@G Thank you. It's sad information for me, but I appreciate being forewarned. If only that enable me to be forearmed!
