We all have our proper nouns that are gimmes and those that aren’t. Minus the theme since they are in wordplay/constructors notes, here is a list in case you need any :) AB FAB, AQABA, BRAVA, DUBAI, VETTES, I TEN, ARIEL, ERIC, ELIAS, URKEL, IONIA, ABDUL, POP WARNER, MISS SCARLET, MESA, JALEN, IMRAN, GEENA, ROO

I am never a fan when a puzzle feels laden with proper nouns: UNO, WEST ELM, KENMORE, PHIL, LUANN, WII, MTN DEW, CARTA, MSG, NRC, ASWAN, ARES, LES MIZ, BRANAGH, TINA, SWIT, EDGAR LEE, VESPA, WAWA, EL GRECO, ESPN, SIMU, COLMAN, MARC, CHIRAC, KOWALSKI, BOHRS, and PACO if I noted them all. Some were gimmes for me, but it’s my least favorite kind of clue. It tends to feel like trivia you either will know or won’t and can be hard to fill without looking up (in my experience, anyway). I did enjoy the clever theme when I caught on though!

Part of what took me so long for 79D and cracking that area is the usage of “info” instead of information. I took that to mean shortened in some way. In my opinion, WHEN is not shortened. Maybe I’m not understanding clueing rules? Or invites because I’m a homebody? Help please!

@Teresa I agree that general knowledge ones like Santa aren’t so bad! The proper nouns in today's puzzle weren’t as hard for me as other ones. I just know what’s a gimme for me is out of someone else’s wheelhouse. When I first started solving a few years ago it was hard feeling the generational gap sometimes in word play. I would be stuck with so much missing except current items or items for my generation, go to the word play hoping for momentum, and half of the “tricky clues” would be the only things I did know (which I understand I’m probably on the younger side of solvers). So every now and then, I like posting a list for whoever may need one for a solve (old or young).

@Bill Hi! You didn’t miss anything important. Just a turn of phrase. I believe my reply below to Teresa will help explain why I included everything.
