Harder than a usual Wednesday for me. I had never heard of this game, though it sounds fun.
Count this puzzle as among the likes of me. I thought the twist on the theme was charming, and I had no trouble discerning it.
@MTL Thursdays always have an unusual trick you have to figure out. It often involves rebuses, but not necessarily. Last week's Thursday involved "braiding" words, for example. You can go into Thursday knowing that all will not be as it seems in some way. I often figure out the trick by dwelling on an answer I know must be right but doesn't seem to work. Wear and tear did that for me this time, [ear]lier than usual.
Very fun puzzle! I was reminded of the parody track by Allen Sherman, the Weird Al Yankovic of the '60s, "One Hippopotami," set to the tune of "What Kind of Fool Am I?" Best line: "And when Ben Casey meets Kildare, that's called a paradox."
@sotto voce That's hilarious. Part of what made the puzzle work for me is that even if you didn't remember the names of the sequels, as I did not, you could glimpse them with wordplay if you knew anything about the movies (e.g., that Freddy is the villain in Nightmare on Elm Street, that Sister Act is a comedy about nuns, that "here I go again" is a "Mama Mia" lyric, etc.). I did rely on crosses mostly for Home Alone 2. I must have blocked that one out because of its cameo appearance of everyone's favorite New Yorker....
