This is the second time in the past short while that I’ve seen “snot” used instead of the much more direct “snob” as the answer for a clue about arrogance. I associate “snot” with someone, particularly a child, who is ill-mannered and badly behaved, not someone who is arrogant. Does this seem odd to anyone else, or is it just me?

I spent several minutes poring over a completed puzzle wondering where I’d gone wrong only to discover that FLIER, the less-common spelling of “flyer”, was to blame. The cross-clue was not helpful for me to distinguish between the two, as sports trivia is far from my forte—and “Mya” and “Mia” are both valid names. Not commenting to protest the puzzle or anything; just here to gripe a bit!

“Alpha” is not part of the NATO alphabet; “alfa” is the code for A. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) does use “alpha”, which made 38D pretty confusing for me.

@Mike 78A only reads that it’s a hint for 54A—it’s not also a hint for 36D. Therefore the “back(wards)” part of 78A only applies to 54A, and has nothing to do with 36D, even though they share the nickel square.

@Erin Especially since each of the clues discusses how they HAVEN’T seen the cryptids in question. The puzzle tells us directly that there is no yeti to be seen, so nobody should be especially surprised to only find a yedi. Some people get so caught up in assuming someone else made a mistake that they completely overlook their own mistakes.

@Barry Ancona “Alfa male” would have been a great pun for 51A, in my opinion anyway.

@Barry Ancona I would consider the names of most athletes “trivia”. Wasn’t trying to be controversial; just pointing out that I’m not especially knowledgeable about sports. I’m also not from the USA, as is made clear by the location listed when I post, so the names of foreign athletes are more obscure for me than what you might experience south of the border.
