I finished the puzzle (on the app, no underlining) and still couldn’t for the life of me figure out the theme. After reading Wordplay for some enlightenment, I’m a bit bummed out NYT published an incomplete puzzle for us IPhone users. A simple fix would have been to use a mix of lower case and capital letters, instead of all caps and underlining.
Gosh, I feel the need to defend this puzzle. I absolutely loved it! I do the crossword puzzle for entertainment, yes, but also because I have to THINK. And I look forward to Thursday each week to see what kind of devious trick I’ll have to figure out. Extra thinking involved : ) And today’s puzzle was extra fun. C’mon folks, it’s just one day a week
@Hard truth sayer Well, you’re right about the smug and arrogant part anyway. To say that the only reason one might not like a puzzle is because they’re not good enough yet? Really? Many totally legitimate criticisms of today’s puzzle in the comments.
Could some kind person help me understand how “I” is a vowel? Thanks!
