I am sorry, but I have to protest the “HOGWASH” clue. I am 71 years old and grew up on one of the small farms that made up America in my childhood. In addition to many other animals, we had pigs and I have never heard “HOGWASH” used to describe what they were fed. The only time I ever heard “HOGWASH” used was as a description of nonsense or trash talk.

@David. Seems like Wordplay on that one. I’ve heard “weasel words” used before, but only by one of my college journalism professors, to describe my overuse of the word “that.” The clue was clever, but threw me off as only one of the three words used in the clue is technically a weasel. They all belong to the weasel family, but only the stoat is actually a weasel. Ferrets look somewhat like a weasel, but are certainly a lot more cuddly than any real weasel would be.

@Trey W Woof, woof, woof. Even went so far as to make a note of who the puzzle constructor was so that I could be sure never to do one of his puzzles again. I’m so not fond of puns and I still think themes should make some sort of sense.

@Sian That’s OK. I was just convinced that Donnie spelled his name with “ie” and not a “Y” until it finally hit me from along ago memory that, hey he did spell it with “y.”

@Cindy I haven’t run into exactly your problem, but the contrast between the app and the website is a little baffling to me. For instance, I’ve yet to discover a way that I can access the column that accompanies the crossword on the app. My major reason for wanting to do that was this puzzle was so annoying, I finally gave up and just wanted to access the answer key to find out exactly where my mistake was that was keeping me from finishing it.

@Francis. Mmmmmm, I guess we’re only allowed to make positive comments?

@Carrie Here you are complaining about the negative comments of those of us who had an extremely difficult time doing this puzzle and yet you feel it’s necessary to throw out a comment that essentially says well I don’t know why you are so stupid and negative, I’ve only been doing the puzzles for a year and I got it easily. That’s hurtful too.

@Jane Wheelaghan I think the day of the week is important for some of us who are still learning. I refuse to do certain days because I’m 71 years old and I’ve had enough stress in my life. I figure if I wind up eventually working those other days, fine, if I don’t, that’s fine too. Having said that if you’re just starting (and I think some of the times writers even suggest this) you start with Monday and then you move on to the other days of the week. Personally, I refuse to do Thursday. I tried to work them on occasion, but I won’t any more because I think rebuses have to be one of the most cruel inventions ever made.
