As a relative newbie, I just want to say this was right in my wheelhouse for a Friday. Just enough to make me stretch my brain...I learned a few things...I felt that glorious sense of "AHA!" when something clicked. This has reinvigorated my love for the game. Thank you Robert Logan!
I haven't been doing this very long (maybe a year?) but this is my favorite crossword EVER!!!!! Thank you, Kevin Curry! Please do more!
Well, I'd forgotten about 56A clue having a "lower 'c'" meaning. Won't happen again!
Man, that SW corner made me feel like today was a different day. 38A, 54A, 64A... never would have gotten those without "comment support." Thanks, all.
@Joe P - Me, TOO! I had never heard of "nerfing" before the recent use of it. It feels good when we're rewarded for learning new words...
What a clever, fresh puzzle! Quite impressive!
I remember learning how to rebus. Today, I was confused and frustrated (as many others, apparently) by the non-rebus. Needed to read the column for clarification. Also, I hardly ever sulk, but I felt 38D was kinda mean. The correct answer could be true of ANY student. Giving a specific grade level felt...TOO intentionally misleading. That being said, I can't imagine actually constructing a puzzle this clever. Well done, Ms. Slovut-Einertson!
You guys want a good laugh? After solving the puzzle, I spent about half an hour reading through posts and wracking my brain to figure out how the "clue" in 69A factored into 25D before I finally realized...25D didn't have a flippin' asterisk!
What the bejeezus is a MOD? Or a Distro? I'm no spring chicken, but I have never heard of ENIAC. And I trained on a Commodore 64. Sorry to express my self-pity, but this one was really frustrating for a Wednesday. And, yes, I love a learning experience, but I hate busting my streak!
After FUMING all yesterday evening about "parsing into six words" which I still think was not only incorrect, but ridiculously ….unnecessarily misleading, I am happy to say today's puzzle reminded me why I love doing crosswords. Thank you, Ms. Hawkins!
I always swing wildly between utter fury and delight when I learn a new word. 64A didn't hold up my solve, but I sure as heck have never seen it before. MW didn't recognize it, either. It's desk-pounding frustration followed by "I'll NEVER forget THIS word, ever again!"
@Andrzej - EES & SST were the exact same answers I scoured these comments to find their meaning. I'm wondering if SST is one of those olden x-word answers that everyone used to just know by rote. I'm pretty sure after doing the NYT puzzle for a little over two years, I've never seen it. But, HEY - we learned something new! Thanks, Dave S & Shan!
