@Beth, I wanted JayZee for that answer, even though that's not how JayZ is spelled.

@B, my now-deceased friend Shoggy saw a dog tied to a post on a bridge in Iowa while driving to work. He couldn't stop at the time, and thought someone else might be able to. However, he saw the dog again on his way back and did stop. Someone had shot the dog but not killed him, and left him there. Shoggy took the dog to the vet, thinking that at least euthanasia was a kinder end. But the dog survived! His name was Jason, and Shoggy gave him a good life.

This puzzle suited me so perfectly. I first learned about Spoonerisms in the 6th or 7th grade; my first example was "butterfly." Then too was the phrasing that the feature was IN THE CLUE. I also tried to have the Spoonerism in the answer! I am not a speed demon w/ the crosswords; I actually feel sad for super experts like Rex Parker, b/c they can't luxuriate over the joy, but that's me being judgmental. I look forward to more from this constructor.

The theme was fine. Everything else bothered me, from brie to bleh to loco.

Haha - I used to say that optimism is the kiss of death (tangential but theme related).

@Jane Wheelaghan, I was paused by "sera" as well. Nice, though, not always to think there will be an "s" in that plural square.

Worst puzzle ever. "hit the roof"? "hot or not"? That whole middle section, blech. Luckily, the answers hit the bottom w/ "murse" not too long ago. Happy spring, all.

@Dave S, the rebus bugged me, too. But the puzzle was cute.

@Geoff Offermann, I used to watch baseball with a friend named JEFF Offermann but never heard the term. Of course, we watched at a bar & the sound was off :) .

@Chris, I would add that "moons over" someone means to have a crush on someone.

@Mean Old Lady, "moolah" was just too easy, b/c we did just see it.

@Mean Old Lady, re. Superboy, no. Clark Kent came as is. The TV show "Smallville" deals with his adolescence & realizing that he has powers. Other "Super" characters, i.e., Supergirl, are an offshoot. I didn't know Superboy from media consumption either; I just guessed. I was the dork growing up in a neighborhood of comic book devotees.
