I thought this was great! An added bonus is that it was chock full of space related stuff such as SAGAN and SPACER and the first three Across answers and, of course, ASTRONAUT. Great job!
@NYTimes -- How do I get rid of the onscreen keyboard and the split screen A/D clues on a computer? With a computer, I already have a keyboard, so don't need the onscreen one. And the A/D clues not being side-by-side on the right make it difficult to quickly switch between them. Plus, the onscreen keyboard takes up so much screen real estate that the puzzle is smaller -- almost too small to comfortably see for older folk like me. Please give us an option to go back to the previous layout.
For 15-Down, I originally put in WHaTsthisAjokE, which I've also heard in response to that question. Once I got the correct answer, though, the other three filled in pretty rapidly. Enjoyed it. Thanks!
Thank you, Sam, for linking to the article about analog clocks. It was a wonderful essay and reader comments about how much easier an analog clock is to use vs. a digital one were very insightful (how much longer until? how long has it been? easy learning of fractions).
@Asher That NPR program has 3 guests on it (making jokes, answering questions about recent news, and so on) who are called the panelists. Thus... If you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend it. Just be careful when drinking something as the snort-laugh is a thing.
@Jaze OLIO means a stew of various meats and veggies, which doesn't really help, though it's kinda related. A second meaning is a collection of miscellaneous things, which is what the clue was going after in this case. Cheers!
@Ed Blond A FLASH -- An instant, a very short moment in time.
