@SP to be honest this forum feels like an INFINITE SCROLL sometimes and I doubt many people read all the comments much less return to see when someone has replied to them (I do, if I remember, but without notifications it often feels like a waste of time). What I'm trying to say is good for you for not spending your precious energy bailing out a leaky boat. Nice people come and go, cranky people come and go, nice people get cranky on bad days, lots of people only read the comments once or twice a week. It's just an ebb and flow and others will step in. You have better things to do 😊

Can we just keep supreme court justices' names out of the puzzle for a while? I'm so upset I had to stop the puzzle for a bit. Surely the editors know how polarizing certain issues/figures are in this country. I mean there are hundreds of famous people with the same name, why pick such a divisive person. I'm not losing my streak over this so hopefully I can calm down and continue. I am sure it is a great puzzle once I get past this.
Fun puzzle! Sad that I didn’t understand the AFTER parts of the clues until I came here but it was very enjoyable nonetheless!

Mini, Midi, Mici? Can we call the big puzzle a Mici? Just being silly. Huge shout out to Christine from NYT Customer Support who worked with me to repair my streak after my app stopped syncing (confession: I was using a 2 year old version of the app because I didn't like it when the font went from bold to not-bold (still not used to it)). I had to re-solve all the July puzzles but darn it I got it done and all my blue stars turned to gold. Yay! 😍 I know not everyone loves streaks but after 672 days I gotta keep going!

@Lewis haha don't laugh. That will be all too common from kids (and then adults) quite soon. And then we'll feel super old.
@Mishlev good point!! As an experienced solver whose comments are often in the "pfft too easy" vein I try to remain positive. But sometimes I forget there are new solvers enjoying the struggle. I sometimes like to add my feedback in the hopes that the editors are using some kind of AI aggregator on the comments section... but this hope is probably in vain. For those of use who enjoy truly hard Saturdays, it's hard to get over the disappointment of whipping through the puzzle in record time but I'm always glad when others enjoy a puzzle more than I did.
Shout out to LOMO saltado, a tasty Peruvian dish which we "discovered" on vacation in Ft Lauderdale. We went to a Peruvian restaurant for ceviche and ended up trying it; it's basically marinated steak served over rice and French fries. Yum!
That was hilarious! As was the Valley Girl puzzle that inspired it. I primarily solve in clue list mode (not sure of the official term for it) so I don't often see the whole grid until I have solved a large part of the puzzle. So I didn't even notice the commas at first, which I'm glad of because I enjoyed getting the gag and not having it explained to me. Once I flipped to see the grid I did find the commas distracting and unnecessary. A very fast Thursday time but it was fun and funny so I enjoyed it.
@Laura I am envious of those who can do the Bee and enjoy it. I am an avid crossworder and I love Connections but my brain just doesn't do scrambles. I have tried 🐝 enough to know it's not my jam. So glad you love it!

@Andrzej a "nurse practitioner" in the US has more training than a RN (registered nurse): they actually must hold an advanced degree like a Master's or Doctorate and they can order tests and prescribe medication. They act very much like doctors. Just a tidbit about our healthcare system.

I stared at the solved puzzle for a long time and read the revealer many times over. I even wondered if homophone might be "berry" but I never made the jump to gooseberry and elderberry. Maybe if one of the themers had been Razzmatazz or Blue Velvet 😊. Oh well!
Quick and fun. I will miss the penny for sure. New pennies, shiny and bright, as well as old ones (I used to like hunting for rare ones). Although they stopped making them in 2025, there are 2026 pennies to be had - but they are expensive- we ordered proof sets from the mint for the semiquincentenial. 🪙
@Jacad Barry Ancona, I have learned, has a wry, dry sense of humor which often comes off as unkind when I believe he is just being tongue in cheek. Maybe if he used winky emojis it would help...

Currently on a Hawaii cruise so I appreciated ABOARD SHIP and NENE. Hoping we get to see one! I don't enjoy puzzles that are so segmented so I struggled but glad others enjoyed it! Aloha
My fastest Saturday ever was 7-26-25 but this one was close to that.

@Helen Wright they are quite massive and impressive! When I see them up north they are soaring high above so it's hard to see them. But in Florida they are quite common and sometimes make their giant nests on top of lights at shopping center parking lots so you'll see them perched on utility poles nearby.
Fun and fast. I do think a better theme/title could have been found that wasn't so confusing/red herringish. But overall a great puzzle!
@Twangster I believe it's a term coined somewhat recently by those who think there has been a softening of clues in the past few years or so - the "Great Easening" - to make puzzles more accessible to the masses...

@Anonymous Sadly I really had to take a break. That person to me signifies the end of Roe v Wade and the beginning of a sad era tending towards fascism/oligarchy/theocracy for this country. I'm not even a person who gets "easily triggered" but in this case I guess I am. ☹️
