@Alan Young Wookiees (with 2 Es) are from the planet Kashyyyk (with 3 Ys). "They're not the phonetics you're looking for."
@Matthew Conroy I'm shocked at how many have commented that they're unfamiliar!
TIL that CAREER is a verb. Or: TIRBIGOAIFTATT (Today I Relearned Because I'm Getting Old And I Forget Things All The Time)
Wow, this one was tricky! Thank you! I love a puzzle that isn't filled with gimmes and tired cluing. I've added lots of new factoids to my file!
@Zézito I have done every single NYT puzzle all the way back to August of 2008 - and I only started playing during 2020. At over 6,000 puzzles in 6 years, I proudly consider myself an avid solver. I also regularly play Minecraft with my husband, my kids, and my adult step kids. I'm 42, but didn't have a video game console growing up, nor did I own one until 3 years ago. We lovers of both exist! :)
@Ken W. TIL that JEDIS isn't a word...
@Robert I came to the comments to see if anyone asked, "Are the circled letters in the room with us?"
Awesome! It's not often that I can figure out the theme AND complete it without looking at the column. Thanks for a fun Thursday!
Anyone else unable to access the comments link via the Android app? I have to search for the Wordplay Column on Google and get to it through there ...
@NotMyRealName I'm on Android and see nothing except seemingly random circled letters. 🤷
@Vaer I'm in dark mode on Android and don't see anything other than seemingly random circled letters. 🤷 There was no animation for me, either.
Ooof! That was a tricky one! I finished it without looking at the column for hints (a big personal win!), but I had no idea what the trick was. The MOPEDS fill bothered me, so I knew there was *something* going on, but my weeks-long battle with influenza has left me with little left for sitting and musing over a theme. Ha! That said, now that I've read the article to discover the double dip bit, I'm once again highly impressed by others' abilities to come up with this kinda thing! Brilliant! Well done.
@sotto voce I grew up in Wisconsin, where Aldi is a staple. I moved to Colorado in 2019 and they still aren't out here yet. The closest one is 400 miles away in Kansas. (Yes, I've checked.)
Oof, this was hard and satisfying to solve! Well, almost solve. I finally sussed out all of the board except the NW corner. I was hoping someone here might give me a hint, but so far I'm still stabbing in the dark...
@Jennifer (Yes, I know I can go to the "contact us" link on the column page, but it says that their office is closed ...)
