Felt a little tough for a tuesday IMO. Was not a fan of CUKE
Not a fan of 7 down. The clue would suggest that a "clarinet" is a "reed" which it is not. It uses a reed, but it is not a reed. If they were going for instrument family, that would be woodwind, not reed.
It's amazing how many times I'll finish a puzzle without getting the theme and think "wow this theme is terrible, it makes no sense!" Only to be completely proven wrong as soon as it dawns on me. I am not a smart man.
@Charles One off meaning like a "one-off" situation. Something that only happens once.
I didn't find the theme all that clever mainly because the "pocket" answers were not at all unique to the type of pants. Why do gloves belong in blue jeans? Why a phone in corduroys? Seemed ambiguous. Unrelated, but this is the first time I've ever heard or seen the word "jodhpurs." I was sure I had a clue wrong lol.
14A and 65D threw me off. Made me think we were using roman numerals for the numbers in 43A. Very confusing theme but maybe I'm just a dummy.
@Anonymous especially with the answer to 51A!
