@Francis Wilden I'm used to looking up US sports teams and various unions and govt departments, and I appreciate that NYT is a US publication. However, even if I had known the US brands etc. today, and despite the clever theme, this seemed more like a crossquiz than a crossword. I thought I'd finally nailed one with the Nissan clue. At last, one in the bag - it's X-Trail of course! Sadly, I discovered it's the X-Terra, a model never imported to Australia. PS Am I the only one who turns their head 90 degrees to work out the long down clues?
Thank you! I loved your puzzle - great fun for a Tuesday. I especially enjoyed the AITCH word which is the way I was taught to pronounce it. Qantas (Australian airline) still has in-flight magazines with crosswords on both domestic and international flights. It's rare to come across a partly-completed crossword anymore as most people just stream movies. I agree, sadly it's probably only a matter of time before the magazines disappear.
@SP He was ridden with guilt...works for me! I, too, can't see insulations as a thing. Insulation looks like a collective noun to me. Was I the only one who thought of snapchat before snapshot? Great crossword, thank you.
@Ian Hookham Same, I don't know anyone who has a gram. And I would spell nana with a double-n, like nanny, otherwise it would sound like the end of 'banana'. I had an issue was with the clueing of Barbie Dream House. Since when is a toy house a crib? Or is there some other meaning of crib that I'm missing? Enjoyed the puzzle but struggled with the trivia.
@Andrzej Oh, thank you so much. I've never seen that series.
