This was a lovely one for me. It felt like the cuing were done entirely towarsds my generation. except that I would happily pay an extra subscription fee to have a sports-free edition - as a sport-agnostic Danish person, I have a hard time even googeling random american ball players, coaches or terms 🤨
I began doing these ones daily since september last year, using as much help as possible, except for the in-game checkers or cross-word cheat sites. This the first one where I just noped out when i found out the "trick". It is far to clever for me, and it'll just feel like trying to box a cement mixer. So good luck and see ya tomorrow 😔
@Andrzej funny, I had the exact same experience regarding the first across pass. Almost nothing clicked. Then with the down pass things cleared up. I'va also been wondering about these birthstones, we don't use them where I'm from. Apparently they are inspired by the bible where twelfe stones adorn the breast plate of Aaron (?). Then, a bit later, in 1912 The National Association of Jewelers standardize them. - so it sounds like a typical American intersection between bible reading and salesmansship, who'd thunk it :)
@dutchiris Pretty sure I never in my 30 years online saw anyone use "On blast" in that sense, confounded me.

@Steve L Oh please. I am able to look up the dictionary definition. What i tried to drive at is how, at least for me beyond the obscure the word is. Sorry if I was unclear. Trivially, is emend a word you have ever used or seen outside a cross-word?

Delightful puzzle, but what in God's name does "emend" mean?!?
It might be because I'm not an american - but is "NUTSE" the, even slightly correct, spelling of anything. Also i don't understand SAWAS - the internet is no help. The daddy battle gods took me some time to figure out too 🤔
