No issues with the theme and thought it worked well - the crappy fill in the north west corner though … that I have issues with …. Atbar indeed
I seem to be the only one bothered by the TiVo reference - so I’ll assume it’s just me. But I do think TiVo needs to start being clued with a hint to past tense at this point - it’s time came and went …
Really enjoyed this one, first pass yielded very little, but it gradually filled in with fair clueing and and some fun twists. Nice change after some of the recent puzzles
I struggled so much with where F comes before E - I actually had CAR but then I thought that was wrong because CARS have to be E before they can be F …. So I tried to rework that whole section - I thought maybe I should have SQUIB not SQUAB (one I can never remember) … after trying to rework the whole thing to make CIR work … I put the A back and it was over :). Note to self - don’t overthink it :)
@RozzieGrandma “We are Farmers” (bum ba dum dum, dum dum dum) INSurance
@Andrzej a bialy is a kind of flat bagel here in ny with I assume polish origins - we could google it but this is more fun :)

All this B/N hate and the thing that got me was the CFO/Wong cross …. I had CFA/Wang and it took me forever to find it … possibly because I work with some CFO who I def wouldn’t describe as mavens :)
Re the mini I know a cap is a hat - but no-one puts on their baseball hat ….
@Frances Rolater If you’re using the app - try closing the puzzle with the down arrow in the top right before you leave the NYT app. If you’re using a browser use a new tab or window for the lookups
@Lea is a reference to a “bid” in the card game “bridge”

@Suzzzanne “Gathering where everyone is silent but deadly” ?
Oddly Stereo got me ! Nowdays a stereo in no way plays any part in a home theater system, in the days of 9.1 atmos surround there is no place for a 2 channel music player in a home theater setup. Still a fun puzzle for a friday though !
Nets/nats Iona/ione 10 mins to find that one ….
@Barry Ancona I think it’s the use of the word rest - rather than a more appropriate stand or place. It’s k for me - just … unlike the bartman !
@Teresa thanks - I had this same question, I've never heard this one before although it might have been in crossword a couple of years back it's not often enough to have stucknin my memory :)
Fun start to the week - I’m not sure about the clue for Scotland s the fact applies to real golf, not the mini variety …
What a week this has been - some very hard puzzles - I had to look up to get round a couple of the names - evidently I have a blank spot when it comes to H names !! I hope tomorrows doesn’t follow with the hardest Saturday of all time.
