I LOVED this! Thank you so much, Dan Caprera!
@Jacqui The only food I've ever heard referenced as "liquid gold" is schmaltz, which is chicken fat.
@Deb (putting on my pedant hat -- if it ever comes off): I think you mean "grisly" (e.g. certain horror movies or TV scenes) rather than "grizzly" (type of bear).
@Ioana Based on having the "RSE" at the end, I was delighted with myself when I arrived at REVERSE for [Back in the race?]. F1 or Indy vs. political race. I still think it's a great clue for that answer, too!
@Oliver It would not work at all in the US -- any child hearing that would pick up a single one (out of likely dozens if not hundreds) -- as MOL already noted!
@sotto voce And Derek Trucks in there too!
@Ellen The answer to the Disney titular character is still titular because although the name itself is not in the title of the movie, the title of the Disney movie describes her.
@Mr Dave You don’t click it (or click on it), but the stapler itself makes a clicking sound as it accomplishes its task. That’s what the clue is referring to/playing on.
@john ezra TONERSTONER is awesome, too! Not inferior.
@Bill Thank you for posting this! The same newspaper that publishes this crossword had a close read essay about this exact poem, with close-ups and a full view of the Icarus painting (and another Brueghel painting of the nativity). Very cool. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/03/06/books/auden-musee-des-beaux-arts.html
@Roger OH. MY. GOD. Thank you thank you thank you!
