Love love love that AI Slop is in here! Call it what it is!
I found this puzzle SAPID because I learned a new word!!
Did anyone else have "Faceplants" instead of "Fakeplants" for 5 minutes after solving before realizing your error? Just me??
Call me "a sentimental man," but I loved thinking about one of my favorite musicals while solving this puzzle and its fun rebus! No "loathing" from me - it's just "popular"!
Love a fun theme on a Tuesday!! Entering "Loo" for "Lav" added a good minute to my time today, haha.
All's well that ends SWELL with this fun, challenging crossword! Loved it!
As a high school English teacher who always tells my sophomores they better know "Et Tu Brute" and "Beware the Ides of March" because they are often referenced, THANK YOU NYT for vindication in today's Midi and main crossword! LOVED THEM BOTH!
Also, BRAVO to the constructor for mixing Caesar salad with Middlemarch. Loved everything about this layered puzzle!
I feel so accomplished that I solved this one with no hints! I also got upandatem with only one crossing letter (scene). Great puzzle! And BRAVO, Deb! I only got into this a year ago, but I'm glad I did so I could read your writing.
@Asher B. I think it's impossible for everyone's hobbies or favorites to be understood or related by everyone. There are many themes where I don't necessarily care for the content of a theme (sports, etc.), but I can STILL acknowledge how much skill and care went into planning out that theme. It's a Sondheim themed-puzzle and somehow the constructor was able to design a grid with clues that all make sense, some clues related to Sondheim, and the circled letters literally make out a hat, which is the title of Sondheim's collected lyrics ("Look I Made a Hat: Collected Lyrics 1981-2011). I wouldn't understand it if the letters somehow were in perfect position for a special defensive football play, but I would still have an AHA moment upon reveal. I go into a puzzle thinking even if I can't relate to it, that doesn't mean what is accomplished by the constructor isn't brilliant.
Fun! Took me forever to figure out that I had REACHESIN (instead of reached in) which made "mess around a sty" MUS (instead of mud). I thought "mus" was just a country way of saying "mess" LOL
Today I learned what an "OAST" is! I had "oases" (IDK why; it doesn't make much sense lol) so it caused me some confusion for quite some time until i figured out DONUT SHOP. Love learning something new each day of my life. :)
Completed with no shade at all! LOVED completing this one.
First thing I typed (started with the downs) was ROMAN GODS, and it sure gave me trouble in the top left corner for a BIT until I realized my mistake. Very fun, enjoyable puzzle!
Great Sunday puzzle! Perfect level of challenge with a cool twist.
GENIUS!!! No need to "send in the clowns" on this brilliant crossword! Sondheim would be proud.
Loved this puzzle!! Very straightforward once you figure out the fun theme. Finished in 20:43 with no hints.
Personal best with no hints or assistance!
@Jesse R. I solve online so it may be even more difficult to do so LOL
@Whoa Nellie To find ourselves underlings!!
@Barry Ancona You learn something new every day! I have a 327 day streak and have never had to use that before; I didn't know that was a thing! LOL. Sorry about that. and THANK YOU!
Loved "Where high schoolers work on their numbers?"!!
This puzzle is TIPTOP for me!! I got my fastest Sunday yet with 22:02 and no hints. Loved all of it! Delphi gave it away early on, and I loved finding all the phis and the I/Os.
What a breeze! Got my best Monday time ever (3:33).
Liked this puzzle! Got my fastest Tuesday time ever!
I solved it and was left stunned that I didn't hear the chimes. Stared at it. Then finally decided to try it without having the extra t added on the Rebus. I wish it would have accepted the rebus answers, though I do now see that the Ts were there in the graph of the puzzle.
Easy breezy! Broke my Tuesday record by solving in 3:43! Loved some of the references, especially Sojourner Truth and the Ides of March.
I feel like the rebus would have been better and more obvious if "one" wasn't one of the options... Two to four and three to nine were much more fun and impressive.
Also, I haven't eaten Rocky Road ice cream in probably 20 years, so IDK if I was sane in having SEASALT there for so long in place of ASPHALT... Is sea salt even in Rocky Road Ice Cream?? LOL
@ColemanI agree. This puzzle was a work of genius!! So much fun.
Is it... okay... to comment here... about... the shape... of Sunday's Midi...
@Lpr Old Arm & Hammer product. Sorta esoteric
@Queenie Very common phrase for a while amongst teenagers.
A lover of literature and music, I was able to breeze through this puzzle with a time of 3:49. It was my best Tuesday time ever! Love when the puzzle is good and aligns with my interests. Thanks for a great puzzle!
Fun puzzle!! Challenging but not impossible. Took me about 5 minutes to get the middle section. Happy with my time for today, which was below my Sunday average!
@Francis Am I the only one who sees it??
@Paul To be fair, the instructions were on a click link, which I thought was just defining rebus for us (which I already know, so I didn't click). I've done the archive for the past 5 years of puzzles and it's never forced me to enter the entire rebus before (usually just allows the first letter). Perhaps if the puzzle requires the full rebus letters to be entered, Wordplay should explain that in the column.
@Steve L Yep, I've always just entered the first letter! I've even done the full archive of the past 5 years AND the Sunday puzzles since 2018 (Sunday is my favorite). It's never forced me to enter more than just the first letter.
@Charles I mean Marvel is the biggest movie franchise in the world and Stax Records feels like common knowledge to me...
@Tempomental It's not working for me. What is the trick?
Can someone help me? I have been done for 40 minutes but it won't accept my crossword as solved. I have one clue by clue four times now and have found no mistakes. Amy I typing the following rebuses correctly? 23A: Y O U A L K I N T O M E 41A: E N O U G H S E N O U G H 57A: M O M O B E 91A: I T S O N E
How fast was your solve??
@Barry Ancona How can I do that? I am typing on my laptop. When I type one letter, it moves on to the next box.
@George I learned tonight that there are random puzzles that require you to click the "Rebus" button and then enter the full initials for the Rebus. See if that helps!
@Heidi ? There are no actual Ts in the puzzle... Are we seeing something different? I solve on my Macbook. My down answers are INDIC for charge, EVEN for occasion, and EGO for Achievement for Whoopi Goldberg and Rita Moreno, in brief. How does THAT make sense?
