Really fun solve and I enjoyed the rebus. Nice Wednesday where everything came together pretty smoothly but with enough twists to be satisfying. Congrats on your debut!
This one was tricky to do online. I ended up making temporary rebuses just to remind myself where the extra letters were. I adore My Neighbor Totoro, though!
This one felt really smooth and satisfying to solve, with a lot of clues relevant to my interest. I loved “fantasy novels”.
@KMC Brer Rabbit is old, from the Uncle Remus folktales. And Doctor Faustus is from a Marlowe play and even older- but I kept assuming the answer for that one would be “devil” or “Satan” because he makes a deal with Mephistopheles. I haven’t actually read/watched the play so I didn’t realize he met Helen. I was stuck on a lot of the other names though! I don’t follow soccer and am terrible at remembering actors’ names!

@Ettagale I love rooibos! I’ve had a lot of it since trying to quit caffeine.
I loved all the Nintendo trivia and felt great about most of the grid, but then I got caught in the bottom right corner for about half an hour. As for the stretchy clues, I felt very proud to get “Santa tracker” but wasn’t that sure about “soonest” even after I put it in. Thanks for a fun puzzle!
@Paul I took a long time to get hyenas (was thinking there might be a human culture I just didn’t know well) but I laughed when I got it!
Fortunately for this puzzle, I’m American or I would have had no chance, but even so, that was a challenge!
@Tom It’s “silent a” because you don’t pronounce the “a” in “diamond”.
@Steve L I was also fine entering all four letters with no slashes, such as: UTNV I was on the app so I’m not sure if that affects things compared to the website.
@Jared I actually guessed “sonata” relatively fast (had some crosses and my friend does chamber music so I was primed for that wordplay). Took me a long time to get “oboe” from the crossings, though. I tried “wood sonata” first (thinking of woodwinds) and then wondered if there was some famous piece name I didn’t know.
@MFSTEVE Yeah, I've never played Metroid but I'm well aware of her for that reason.
@Anonymous I also did that. This puzzle took me over an hour in part because of things like that where I had partially correct answers.
