When she does the puzzle in the morning, my mother will enjoy the baseball and quilting references even more than I did! She’ll likely have to rely on crossings for TAYTAY, a clue the six-year-old in my house would joyfully have offered. In fact, @Sam, in answer to your question, the nickname is so widely used that Siri will play her music prompted by it.

@Rob —it’s either! The usage depends on what’s being referred to, so we’re often in guessing mode (reliant on the crossing) for certain Spanish words. Each of (el, la, los, las) means “the”, (esto/este) mean “that”, and the list goes on. Happy crossing!

When I had enough crossings to fill RUSSETPOTATO as a “sight clue”, I had only one themed clue to fill and zero sense of the theme. But the “ID” at the start of “Identity” with the potato reference was the spark I needed to solve the puzzle of the theme itself. It was a joy to go back and understand the other themed clues, and to fill the last one with confidence. Thanks!

That was a fun solve, thanks! Considering the answer to 19A, It was fun to see Romeo, Juliet and India within clues along way. There’s as sneaky “golf” in the answers, if you want to stretch it, that I didn’t get til the end of my fill. Great work, friend!

@Ms. Billie M. Spaightit — it might be an ewer if you also say “an eucalyptus tree” or “an yard of fabric”.

Fun puzzle, thanks! I loved seeing BOOYA right alongside ENCANTO—perhaps an accidental reference to the song “What Else Can I Do?”? In the song, Isabela sings “I'm coming through with tabebuia” And Mirabel echo-hypes her with “she's coming through with that booya!” Good times.

I just started the Sunday puzzle, but I’m waiting for someone to mention the connection between 1A here and 1A in the mini…

@Richard—I encourage you to look up the Dunning–Kruger effect before making such confident claims.
