This is so fun! Duck themed and I was able to finish without look up. Been crossing since February and starting to get the hang of it. Really happy with todays puzzle :)
This is my first rebus puzzle and so much fun. The Wordplay article was kind of rude though, I’ve never seen them be negative about a puzzle.
I’m still very new to the NYT crosswords so the trickier clues with double meanings sometimes stump me, but the joy when I organically got the dog park clue was awesome.
Well.. I think the shot into a vein discourse has been put to death. I guess sometimes I say to patients “I’m going to give you a little shot into your IV” for IV push meds. Or perhaps “take a shot” at placing an IV for a difficult stick. Or maybe from when we didn’t have leur locks, and nurses had to use needles to shoot into the ports of IV tubing? Trying to be generous here lol. Just shows how even for very educated people with basic health literacy (assumed), there is a lack of understanding in what we *actually do* in healthcare.
I was LOLing at TSA being “in the bag” .. I thought oh how clever 😅 then I realized that it didn’t fit and the answer was TEA lol
This was a really fun Monday puzzle I had to come back to. After the second SET, I thought of a comment I saw on a puzzle recently complaining about a word being repeated in the puzzle and thought “oh they won’t like this”. After the third SET I began to realize the theme :)
ONTRARIAN, TRITE, SCHWA, and the whole nonsense of no one correct answer is just a reminder to me that I don’t fit in with the crossword crowd and will never be able to finish a puzzle without looking up answers or reading the article.
Source of wood means GOLFBAG… Right … who wouldn’t think that.
This was so fun! Perfect amount of challenge and ease, really enjoyable, and the themed clues were so fun to figure out.
I REALLY struggled with the northwest corner but overall really enjoyed the puzzle :) I had to look up countries of the Caribbean and didn’t realize how many there are but I learned something new!
I had a lot of fun with this today! Couldn’t figure out how Buoys was a place to dock but figured I don’t know much about boating, then realized after filling in the revealer it didn’t fit. The word QUAYS entered my head—no idea how. Never heard or used it but I knew in my heart it fit. Still don’t know what it means lol. Today was an example on how it’s okay not to know the all the answers but with good crossing words you can learn something!
I really enjoyed this puzzle. I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why I kept getting the “at least one square is amiss” message — so I broke and checked my answers. Accidentally had TRIM X LTS instead of BRIM X LBS. Ah well, no Monday streak, but had a lot of fun :)
@Darren I really struggle with the Friday through Sunday puzzles as well, and I can get to feeling pretty nasty about it, so I have decided to just use them as learning experiences and not comment on them. You aren't alone but I try to remind myself it’s just a game, and the puzzle-writer and editors worked hard on it. If they can give me fun puzzles, they can also write what they (and many others) find fun too. Don’t feel discouraged x
There have been a few czar related answers recently, no?
I got squab immediately from my favorite shows being cooking competitions :) tricky but fun. The cross word of TAY and EARP were pretty obscure for me so I’m glad that was hinted at in the article, I would never have filled that hole. No knowledge of westerns or firths but happy to learn.
@BarbWho I don’t lose my streak as long as I complete them in order
HAWAISLANDERS and KRISTINSCOTHOMAS were very frustrating. Just annoys me for the rest of the puzzle.
@GyrndiIm why are half the clues what they are? It’s a lot of smug patting themselves on the back.
@Nel so have I (RN 7 years—I’m 27 so it feels like most of my life!), and I also have never heard that. Several physicians have commented to share an EEG is not the standard of care for migraines regardless. It’s so fun to me when medical related things are in the crossword but it seems like they often miss the mark. Health literacy in this country is an epidemic, and not just because of the EEG clue.
